Estimator – SFR515

Estimator (Full-Time, Permanent)

Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Location: Norwich (office-based)

The Role

We are working with a fast-growing, forward-thinking construction business delivering high-quality fit-out and refurbishment projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an ambitious and detail-driven Estimator to join their commercial team.

This role would suit someone who enjoys analysing complex project information, interpreting specifications and drawings, and producing accurate, commercially robust pricing. You’ll play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, schedules and design information
  • Break down project documentation to identify scope, risks, gaps and cost drivers
  • Produce detailed cost estimates and pricing models for fit-out and refurbishment works
  • Carry out full take-offs and quantification from drawings
  • Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations for compliance and completeness
  • Build detailed pricing breakdowns and subcontract packages
  • Identify and highlight commercial and technical risks, scope gaps and ambiguities
  • Support value engineering exercises where appropriate
  • Provide clear cost breakdowns and pricing assumptions during project handover

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience estimating within the construction industry
  • Background in fit-out, refurbishment or interior construction projects
  • Strong ability to interpret drawings and specifications
  • Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills
  • Strong Excel and estimating software capability
  • Good understanding of construction methods and sequencing

Desirable

  • Degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
  • Experience working under JCT contracts
  • Knowledge of cost planning and commercial risk management

About the Role

Customer & Project Support

Handle incoming customer and supplier calls, providing exceptional service and expert support.

Progress project enquiries through to order, confidently managing enquiries under £100k.

Respond promptly to subcontractor pricing enquiries.

Resolve customer queries and complaints while maintaining professionalism and trust.

 

CRM & Project Management

Keep the CRM system updated with accurate project, company, and contact information.

Analyse CRM activity to identify unchased or inactive projects.

Conduct research into project influencers, especially for major developments.

Process sample requests and manage RMA procedures.

 

Communication & Collaboration

Act as a central communication link between key customers and the Specification team.

Work daily with the Internal Sales team to follow up on outstanding quotes and improve conversion rates.

Collaborate closely with the Estimating team to ensure “Right First Time” schedules.

 

 

Sales Growth

Identify new opportunities on non-specified projects by offering knowledgeable guidance.

Support the development of long‑lasting contractor relationships.

About the Role

As Principal Fire Engineer, you will take national responsibility for the delivery of fire engineering services across multiple projects and locations. You will:

  • Lead the development of fire strategies for complex and higher‑risk buildings
  • Provide expert technical assurance and act as the senior point of professional judgement
  • Guide, mentor and support surveyors and junior fire engineers
  • Oversee on‑site inspections and ensure high-quality documentation and compliance
  • Lead discussions with Building Control, Fire Authorities and regulatory bodies
  • Manage national travel to multiple project locations as required

Essential Criteria (Non‑Negotiable)

You must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Engineering Council
  • Accredited Fire Engineering (BEng/MEng) or related degree
  • MIFireE (or higher) professional membership, or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years’ post‑graduate fire engineering experience
  • Proven experience delivering strategies for complex, high‑risk or multi‑storey buildings
  • Experience working nationally with regular site and client visits

Qualifications
